Behind the Photo: Forrest Huber Slug Mag Photo Feature Issue 325 - January 2016
Forrest Huber recently had a great photo feature in the January Issue of SLUG Magazine. Very reminiscent of an old Kerry Getz or Ricky Oyola Ollie photo from the 90's/early 2000's. While the spots don't always change, the eyes in which they are viewed through do. As a result of Weston's vision, and Forrest skating, this photo came together perfectly. This was just the tail end of an amazing day skating downtown. Here's a collection of other photographs that Weston Colton shot throughout the day.
Forrest Huber: Ollie over the rail down both sets
Glenn Calvert: BS Smith
Sam Milianta, Glenn Calvert, and Niels Jensen
Forrest Huber: BS Nosegrind Popout
Niels Jensen, Sam Milianta, and Jovi Bathemess
Jovi Bathemess: Switch BS Crook
Jovi Bathemess: Switch Front Crook
Forrest Huber: 360 Flip
Forrest Huber: Wallride Nollie Out over the Pole

The Life in a Day: Garrison Conklin (Episode 4)
"The Life in a Day is a monthly video series designed as a creative challenge for local skaters to produce a video in the span of 24 hours. The ultimate goal is to illustrate an honest portrait of the skater, to capture how they skate, how they think, how they interpret public space and architecture. This month's episode focuses on local skater Garrison Conklin."

The Life In A Day: Jovi Bathemess (Episode 2) by Adam Terry
Life in a Day is a monthly video series designed as a creative challenge for local skaters to produce video in the span of one day. The ultimate goal is to illustrate an honest portrait of the skater, to capture how they skate, how they think, how they interpret public space and architecture.
“The Life In A Day” series is a perfect challenge for a skater like Jovi Bathemess. He is a skateboard lover to the core. He manages BC Surf and Sport, skates his ass off, films and makes skate videos, and is always taking amazing skate photos. His unique trick repertoire, creative use of spots, and passion for the artistry within skateboard culture, allow him to thrive in a “one-day” video concept like this.
We started at the shop, hooked up with the homies, bombed some hills, hit some favorite spots, and then mobbed through the city searching for new possibilities. This is an average Sunday for Jovi...

"Ever since I saw a photo of Ryan Hickey do a wallride nollie out in SLAP I’ve always liked that trick. It’s one of my favorite tricks to watch people do and I always think it’s rad no matter what. It is, however, a trick that is really hard to shoot a photograph of. It always looks awkward. For example, the skater has one foot dangling off the board or the timing is weird. It’s basically just hard to shoot and I’ve failed numerous times."
"While this is a far cry from my photographic Swan Song, this photo of Jovi Bathemess doing a wallride nollie out just happened to work out for me on this particular day. Jovi is really good at that trick and I have failed to translate just how good his technique is, photograph-wise, on several occasions. On this day, at one of the more rugged spots he’s done it on, we finally got the photo."
Jovi Bathemess, Wallride Nollie Out, Salt Lake City, UT. 2012.
Huge thanks to Sam for putting this together for us. Be on the look out for his monthly zines.
